Dexter R. Fowles, Jr., 98, of Kittery, Maine, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2020 at Courville in Manchester, NH following a recent illness. He was the husband of the late Carolyn Fowles. She was the love of his life and they shared sixty-five years of marriage. He was also predeceased by his son, Brian and his daughter-in-law, Anne.

Born in Gardiner, Maine on September 14, 1921, he was the son of the late Dexter and Ruth (Jackson) Fowles. Dexter graduated in 1940 from the Bentley School of Accounting and Finance in Boston.

He worked as a bookkeeper in Foxboro, MA, where he met his wife, before joining the U.S Army. He proudly served our country from 1942 to 1946, working in finance departments stateside. He was also involved in Barrage Balloon training in New York while he was enlisted. Dexter worked for Trans World Airlines for thirty-seven years, holding various accounting positions in Wilmington and New York before becoming a Revenue Accounting Manager in their Kansas City, Missouri headquarters.

He raised his family in Prairie Village, Kansas, which would be his primary home for over 50 years. He attended the Colonial Church and was an active chorister with his wife, Carolyn throughout their membership. He regularly visited his family home in Kittery, keeping it as a vacation home in his retirement.

He moved back to Kittery as his primary home in 2008 and was an active member of the Second Christian Congregational Church. Hobbies included world travel as well as a great appreciation of opera and theatre performances. Dexter will be remembered for his precise organizational skills, particularly his attention to details and numbers. He was incredibly clever and surprisingly competitive, yet always a gentleman and a smiling friend to everyone.

He is survived by his granddaughter, Catherine Fowles and her husband, Tom Rackham of Lincoln, England; one nephew, Jack Fowles and his wife, Sandy of Litchfield, NH and one niece, Rebecca Starkey of Merrimack, NH.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Memorial Service is planned for a later date in Kittery, Maine with interment in Eliot, Maine.
