Donald Raphael Hartley, Sr., 86, of Pflugerville, TX, formerly of Manchester, NH, Bedford, NH and Springfield, MA, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Springfield, Massachusetts on January 31, 1932, son of the late Raphael Hartley and Lorraine Trottier.
An honorably discharged war time veteran, Donald proudly served his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard, 1950-1953. Following his military career, Donald's profession in Management and Sales within the transportation industry lasted forty years, until retirement from, Carolina Freight Carriers.
A dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Donald's family was paramount in his life. He was the pillar of strength for his family. During the summers, Donald enjoyed boating with family and friends. In his spare time, he tenderly cared for his flower gardens. Donald found great comfort and strength in his Catholic Faith. A longtime parishioner of St. Elizabeth Seton, he served as Eucharistic minister, Lector, Adult CCD teacher, and a member of the church choir. For many years, he was a member and President of the Jaycee's in East Long Meadow, MA. Donald will be best remembered for his love of family.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Joan Helen Hartley of Pflugerville, TX; four children, Donald Hartley, Jr. and wife Judy of Palm Dale, CA, Richard Hartley, Sr. and wife Jodi of Hooksett, NH Thomas Hartley of Pembroke, NH and Anne-Marie Spradlin and husband Randell of Taylor, TX; eleven grandchildren; five great grandchildren, with a sixth on the way; twelve brothers and sisters; two half brother and sister; several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: His Visitation will be held in the Phaneuf Funeral Homes, 243 Hanover St., Manchester, on Sunday, July 8, 4:00 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM His Funeral Mass will be Celebrated in the St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 190 Meetinghouse Rd., Bedford on Monday, July 9th at 10 AM, followed by Committal with Military Honors at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen.
