Donald Edward LaCroix, 74, of Concord passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 28th during his brief stay at Merrimack County Nursing home following a period of declining health. His loving family was by his side.
Donald was born in Concord on September 12, 1938, the son of Adrienne and Agnes (Gallagher) LaCroix. He was raised in Concord and graduated from St. John's High School. Shortly after graduation, Donald enlisted in the US Army where he proudly served his country from 1961 through 1963. Following his military service, Donald worked as a Foreman at Rumford Press. When the press closed, he moved on to the maintenance department of Concord School District where he stayed until his retirement.
Donald was a long time member of the American Legion in Concord and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He spent much of his time between the two organizations and deeply cherished the friendships he made there. Donald loved taking walks or going for car rides to sight see and he also had a beautiful collection of lighthouses. He was an excellent cook. He loved sports and enjoyed yelling at the television during Red Sox games. Possessing a great sense of humor, he was a funny man who loved to joke with people just to watch them get worked up. He cared deeply for his family and was an endless source of strength to them. He was the best father to his children.
Donald leaves behind 3 loving children, Karen A. LaCroix of Arroyo Grande, CA, Susan E. LaCroix of Concord, NH and Micheal P. LaCroix of Vero Beach FL; granddaughters Mavinee A. LaCroix of Vero Beach, FL, Abigail R. LaCroix of Vero Beach FL and Ava L. Spruell of Concord, NH; a brother, Joseph LaCroix of Concord, NH, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by his sister, Mary (LaCroix) Kohaine of Hampton, NH and his brother, David LaCroix of Franklin, NH.
At Donald's request, there will be no calling hours. Burial at the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers,donations can be made to the CRVNA Hospice House and the Merrimack County Nursing Home.
