Donald A. Lafond, 77, of Manchester, passed away on December 28, 2018 at Catholic Medical Center.
He was born in Manchester on December 26, 1941, the son of Adrien and Aline (Desmarais) Lafond. He graduated from Ste. Marie High School in 1959. He was a United States Air Force Veteran, and called to active duty at Charleston Air Force Base in South Carolina. He had lived in Keene, working for the former MPB Corporation (now Timkin Super Precision) for 24 years as a computer programmer. He then returned to Manchester after his retirement from the MPB Credit Union as a loan processing officer. While in Keene, he was a parishioner of St. Bernard's Church and sung in the choir for over 33 years and was also a soloist. He held membership in the Keene Horseshoe Club, and the Pool and Bowling League. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, the American Legion Post 4, the Knights of Columbus Council 819, and was inducted into its Pitch Hall of Fame. He enjoyed making others laugh and going to Foxwoods. Playing cards was his hobby.
Family members include his wife of 50 years, Rita (Tremblay) Lafond; a son, David Lafond of Manchester; two grandchildren, Adrienne and Luc; a brother, Norman Lafond of Manchester; a sister, Sr. Pauline Lafond, PM of Manchester; and nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A calling hour will be held at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St., Manchester on Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 in St. Pius X Church. Entombment with military honors will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
