Donald E. White Jr., 71, of Chichester died Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, MA surrounded by his loving family following a battle against melanoma.
Donald was born in Manchester on June 30, 1939, the son of the late Donald. E. Sr. and Sarah (Mullen) White. He lived in Manchester for many years, graduating from Manchester Central High School in 1957. He spent more than 20 years as a resident of Hooksett and then lived the last several years of his life in Chichester. Donald served his country in the United States Air National Guard in the early 1960s. He worked for Public Service of New Hampshire as a lineman for over 40 years.
Donald is described by his children as a quiet and reserved man. He taught them many things throughout their childhood and always supported them in anything they set out to do. He was very energetic and loved to be outside. He spent much of his time hiking, boating, skiing, gardening, and picking blueberries with his grandkids. Later in life he took up photography and photographed the beautiful landscapes and mountains of NH that he loved so much. Donald was also a master tinkerer who could design, build, and fix just about anything.
Donald is survived by his son, Garret D. White and his wife, Shelley, of Pelham; his daughter Alison and her husband Stephen Christensen of Windham; his brother Richard F. White; his sister Kathleen Cody; his former wife Patricia Suzanne White; 6 grandchildren, Alec, Eric, Marina, Julia, Gregory and Luke; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00-8:00pm on Sunday, June 26th at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street in Manchester. A memorial service will take place at 10:30am on Monday, June 27th at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church,207 Hemlock Street in Manchester.
