DONNA G. WASHBURN
NEWPORT, NH -- Donna G. Washburn, age 94, formerly of Lisbon, NH, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2005, in the Summer Crest Assisted Living Facility in Newport, NH following a period of declining health.
Donna was born a daughter to Bernie and Leona (Pinckney) Gray on August 20, 1911 in Columbia, NH.
Donna was a graduate of Colebrook Academy, class of 1929 and of the Concord Business College in Concord, NH. After graduating, she worked for the Public Service Company of New Hampshire in Colebrook and Lisbon. For many years following, she was employed as a secretary for the Superintendent of Schools in Lisbon and finished her business career at the White Mountain Supervisory Union #35 in Littleton, retiring in 1973.
Donna was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in the Eureka and Iona-Lafayette Chapters becoming a 50-year member in 1988. She held several offices in the local chapters and in 1952-1953 she served as Grand Ester of the New Hampshire Order of the Eastern Star.
She was an honorary member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, the New Hampshire Association of Educational Secretaries and the Lisbon Womens Club. She attended the United Church of Christ in Lisbon.
During her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends. Her family will remember her generosity and exceptional sewing and knitting skills, as well as her delicious apple pies and chocolate chip cookies.
Donna is survived by a daughter, Sally Stoughton of Claremont, NH; a son, Taylor Washburn of Portola Valley, CA; five grandchildren, two great-grandsons, and several nieces. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Harley, in addition to a brother, Wilbur Gray and a sister, Bettina LaBar.
SERVICES A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Colebrook Village Cemetery in Colebrook, NH on September 28, 2005.
