Doris M. (Proulx) Chalifour, 91, of Manchester, passed away at St. Teresa Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on January 5, 2026, with her loving family by her side.
Doris was born in Manchester on January 19, 1934, to Sinai and Cecile (Deslauriers) Proulx. A woman of deep faith and quiet generosity, Doris was a longtime parishioner of St. Anthony Church, where she devoted countless hours volunteering and found community through the Ladies of St. Anne, the CWV Women’s Auxiliary and her love of weekly Bingo.
Doris had a special way of caring for others, especially during times of loss. Her homemade pea soup, lovingly prepared for bereavement gatherings, became well-known and deeply appreciated by fellow parishioners—offering comfort when it was needed most. At home, her kitchen was a place of warmth, where family gathered, stories were shared, and love was always on the menu. Above all, Doris treasured time with her family and put her heart into caring for those around her. She was the devoted wife of Henri Chalifour, who passed away in 2021.
Family members include four sons: Gerard Chalifour, Donald Chalifour and his wife Nancy, Paul Chalifour and his wife Deann, and Jean Chalifour of Orlando, FL; a daughter, Lillian Bell of Manchester; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeannette Lamy of Manchester; and many nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Claudette Girard, in 2018.
