Doris J. McCandless, age 87, died on March 9, 2008 at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen.
Doris was born on September 20, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Albert and Alverta (Schroeder) Toboldt.
She grew up in Philadelphia, PA, and graduated from Frankford High School.
Doris lived in Havertown, PA for 40 years and Drexel Hill, PA for 11 years before moving to Salisbury, NH.
Doris was a member of the Ebenezer Methodist Church for more than 50 years, where she was a choir member and soloist. She also was a member of the Herald Concert Choir, a professional singing group that performed in and throughout the Delaware Valley Area. Doris was a member of the Delaware Co. Artistâs Guild and received satisfaction from exhibiting and selling her paintings to professional offices in the area.
She derived strong spiritual support from her association with the Unity Church, and for many years attended a weekly prayer and study group that met in Bryn Mawr.
Doris was passionate about music, art, and her family. She had an ability to look at a stark winter landscape and see color and beauty there.
Her family members include a son, Jeffrey R. McCandless of Salisbury; a daughter, Melinda S. Bergen of Gulph Mills, PA; and 4 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, William W. McCandless, who died in 2004.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens in King of Prussia PA on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dorisâs memory to the Resident Activity Fund, Merrimack County Nursing Home, 325 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH 03303. Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium is in charge of arrangements.
