Doris Jean Riley

Doris Jean Riley, wife, mother and grandmother passed away on June 2, 2007 in Florida at the age of 77 after battling a long illness. Doris is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Richard Riley, daughter, Debbie Stanyan and her husband Bill Stanyan and grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler and Michelle Stanyan. Doris was born in Manchester, NH in 1929 to A.G. and Anna Gosselin who have preceded her in death. She will be greatly missed by her siblings, Lorraine Peterson, Margo Lacaillade, Arthur Gosselin Jr., Beatrice Horion and Jackie Cullerot. As well as the surviving spouses, Waldo (Wally) Peterson, Harold (Carl) Lacaillade, Lionel (Nel) Cullerot. She was greatly loved by all of her nieces and nephews. During her long and happy life not only was she very involved with her family but was very active in her community. It began with the business she and her husband Richard started in 1955, Riley’s Sport Shop. She was also active with the Hooksett Woman’s Club and was elected eight times to the New Hampshire State Legislature. While serving in the legislature she had a long list of proud accomplishments one of which included the first State Duck Stamp. That has raised millions of dollars for the acquisition of water fowl habitat. In 1988, after they sold their business, Doris and her husband Richard retired to Delray Beach, Florida for the winters and spent their summers in New Hampshire at Lake Winnipesaukee. During her retirement she continued being very active in the NRA along with her husband, Richard. In addition to her dedication to her family and community, Doris had many outside hobbies and interests. She loved playing cards, gardening, traveling, antiquing, boating and participating in antique car shows with her Model A Ford. At any given time she could be seen crocheting afghans for family and friends. One of her favorite songs was “My Way” which is a great way to describe how she lived her life. Doris was deeply loved, will be greatly missed and always remembered with great affection. Her Memorial Gathering will be held at the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover St, Manchester on Thursday from 4 to 8 PM. Her Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of the Funeral Home on Friday at 11:00AM. Interment will be private.
