Dorothee M. Hamel, 67, of Manchester died at her daughters home in Pittsfield on June 16, 2007. She was born on August 26, 1939 in Ham-Nord, Quebec, Canada the daughter of Agenor and Lucianna (Fortier) Provencal. Dorothee was raised and educated in Quebec and became a naturalized US citizen in her 20s. In her earlier years, she worked in the mills and in the late 1970s became owner of the Northwood Motel, which she operated with her family. She retired in 1985 from Carol Cable. She was a talented knitter and sewer and had crafted many articles of clothing for her children when they were youngsters. Yearly birthday trips to New Castle with her family were a favorite pastime. She was a parishioner of St. Patrick Church and Columbette where she enjoyed playing shuffleboard with fellow members. Dorothee always had an open door for her friends and family. She was a kindhearted woman and loving mother. Family members include; one son, Steve Hamel of Epsom; two daughters, Lyn Ward of Pittsfield and Lisa Fritz of Amherst; four grandchildren; one brother, Jean-Guy Provencal of Canada; two sisters, Jeannine Letourneau of Sherbrook and Anita Lebel of Thetford Mines, Quebec; and many nieces and nephews. There will be a Memorial Reception on Saturday, June 23rd from 10:00 until 11:00 with a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street.
