Dorothy Florence Gowitzke Hebert, 90, passed away peacefully with her family by her side just shy of her 91st birthday on January 21, 2018. She was born in Manchester to the late William B. Gowitzke and the late Irene (Morey) Gowitzke in 1927. She enjoyed 45 years of marriage with her late husband William "Bill" Hebert.
She was an active 4-H Club member, a family tradition, awarded best in the county for sewing and gardening. As an adult Leader, she received recognition at the 1946 National Leadership 4-H Conference in Washington, DC. After graduating from Central High School in 1945, she worked at the MKM Knitting Mill. She was a communicant of St. Pius X Church, a member of the Ladies Guild and the Catholic Daughters for many years.
In 1964, she and her husband established their family business, Hebert Auto Supply, where she remained active for almost forty years.
She relished gardening, the beach, rocking babies and playing cards with friends. She and her husband instilled traditions that have been passed on to future generations such as family camping weekends at Camp Fatima and their annual Cider Fest. In their retirement, they enjoyed many years of camping and travel with lifelong friends, Ray and Cecile Fortin. In her later years, she wintered in Florida and became "the Wine Lady" of Mount Olive Recreational Club House where you could get a hot dog and a soda for a dollar on Bingo Friday.
She was very proud of the large family which is the legacy she leaves behind. She is survived by her children, son, Donald Hebert and wife Lucille; son, Leonard Hebert and wife Karen; daughter, Jacqueline Gilbert and husband William "Cid"; son, Normand Hebert and wife Madeline; son, Andrew Hebert and wife Terri; her grandchildren, Stacy, Matthew, Kristin, Nathan, Marcy, Katherine, Aaron, Kerri, Jason, Rachel, Joey, Thomas, and Lauren; 31 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law, Shirley Gowitzke.
