Dorothy S. Largena, 84 of Putney, VT passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital in Brattleboro, surrounded by her family. She was born in Putney on April 9, 1930, the daughter of the late Edmund D. and Rachel (Fuller) Stockwell.
Dot was a lifelong Putney resident. She was employed for 14 years at Green Mountain Orchard, 2 years at the Putney Post Office and 4 years at Ames Department Store until her retirement. Dot was a social butterfly. She enjoyed embroidering, camping, spending time outdoors, tending to her flowerbeds, assisting her son-in-law with delivering the Deerfield News newspaper in the Wilmington area, and animals. In 2011, at the age of 81, she took up painting at The Gathering Place; which she became very good at. Dot's pride and joy were her grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband, Raymond Largena in 1976; two brothers, Sherman and Edward Stockwell, and two sisters, June Ross and Martha Snyder.
She is survived by two daughters, Faith Martin and her husband Carl Mosher of Putney, VT and Carol A. Lynch and her husband Laurence, Jr. also of Putney; a brother, David Stockwell of Bellows Falls, VT; five grandchildren, Peter C. Martin of Keene, NH, Heather F. Martin of Putney, Amanda M. Lynch of Keene, NH; Tyler D. Lynch of Dummerston, VT, and Shawn M. Lynch of Putney; two great grandchildren, Hannah G. Martin of Tallahassee, FL and Carter L. Melia of Keene; two sister-in-laws, Gladys Stockwell of Putney and Jean Stockwell of Guilford; a close family friend; Kim Basinger; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends made at the gathering place.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Gathering Place and BMH Special Care Unit for the love and care given to their mother.
An hour of visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 from 9-10 AM at KER-WESTERLUND FUNERAL HOME, 57 High Street, Brattleboro, VT. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Putney, VT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's name to The Gathering Place, 30 Terrace St., Brattleboro, VT 05301; East Putney Community Club, c/o Marilyn Loomis, 37 Signal Pine Rd., Putney, VT 05346 or Vermont Pet Partners, c/o Heidi Henderson, 376 Coffee House Rd., Killington, VT 05751.
