Douglas D. Chamberlin

Douglas Dockstader Chamberlin passed away in Concord, NH, on April 29, 2024, at the age of 76. Doug was born in Newton, MA, the son of Louis and Betty Jane Chamberlin. He graduated from Needham High School in 1965. Growing up, he was a Boy Scout, and later in life became a Scout leader. He organized and led both canoe and bicycle trips.

At Bucknell University, Doug was in Sigma Phi Epsilon and played baritone horn in the band. He met his wife Susan there, and they were married in 1970, while Doug was in the Army. They moved to Dover, NH a few years later, and Doug earned his master’s degree from UNH in 1973. Sue and Doug lived in Dover for many years before moving to Northwood and then to Deerfield, NH. Doug worked as a teacher and trainer for Pittsfield Middle High School, Marshfield High School, PSNH, and the State of NH.

Doug loved boating, hiking, skiing, playing golf with friends, showing off while waterskiing, riding his bike, and dessert of all kinds. He also loved his church, his family, and serving the Lord. If you needed a ride to the airport, someone to pray with, or a bad (dad) joke, Doug was always ready to help. He made several trips to Louisiana and Texas to help with hurricane relief work.

Doug was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Skip. He is survived by his wife Susan; his children Eric (Meredith) and Debra (Scott Gurley); his grandchildren Lucy and Natalie Chamberlin and Micah, Hannah and Matthew Gurley; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held at Faith Community Bible Church in Loudon, NH on June 4 at 10:30 am. There will be a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to Samaritan’s Purse or EFCA ReachGlobal Crisis Response.
