Elaine Church Hubbard, aged 98, died on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at a skilled nursing center under hospice care in Bedford, NH, where she was moved to be close to her family. She was born on July 25, 1927, in Pittsfield Massachusetts, the daughter of Horace Stimpson and Gladys Lorentz Hubbard. She was predeceased by her brother, Horace Atwell Hubbard, in 1971.
Dr. Hubbard, Ed.D., R.N., ANP, C, attended Bates College, graduating in 1950, and went on to receive her Doctoral degree from Boston University. She was the Dean of the Simmons College School of Nursing before becoming the first Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies at the University of Rochester School of Nursing. Later, she became the School’s director of community-centered practice. Her passion for primary care and care of the elderly was the hallmark of her career, but she was also an adult nurse practitioner, and a nurse educator and administrator. In 2006, the School of Nursing established the Elaine C. Hubbard Center for Nursing Research on Aging in Elaine’s honor. She received the University of Rochester School of Nursing Dean’s Medal in 2013 and served as an honorary Board Member for the Visiting Nurse Service.
She was an active member of the YMCA of Pittsford, the Pittsford Community Church, and similar organizations in Naples, Florida. She loved to travel and enjoyed visiting friends and family in new places. She is survived by her nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, among many other family members and wonderful, lifelong friends. Her joyful, energetic spirit touched many people whom she cared for lovingly in her community and beyond.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to the Elaine C. Hubbard Center for Nursing Research on Aging at the University of Rochester School of Nursing, or the Pittsford Community Church.
Private burial will be scheduled shortly, and a Celebration of Life will be held through Pittsford Community Church at a later date.
