Edith M. Largy Kapela, of 91 Strawberry Hill Ave, Stamford, CT and formerly of Manchester, NH, died May 30, 2002 at Stamford Hospital. She grew up in New Hampshire and had been a Connecticut resident for over forty years. She was a graduate of Mt. St. Mary's College and also earned graduate credits from Boston University, the University of Maine, the University of Bridgeport and Columbia University. She held a Masters degree in the Education of the Blind and Partially Sighted. She worked as a High School Teacher for the Stamford, CT School District for many years. During that time, she was a Teacher Consultant for the Visually Handicapped. She also taught school in New Hampshire, Maine and Florida. She had been the President of the Connecticut Association for Instructors for the Visually Handicapped. She wrote articles on working with the Visually Handicapped including several published in the ''New Outlook For The Blind''. She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen Kapela who died in 1982 and by a son, David Kapela. Family members include one son, Donald Kapela of GA and three nieces, Annette Paquette, Christine Vallee and Francine LeBlanc, all of Manchester and a brother-in-law, Anthony Kapela of Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10:00 in the Chapel at St. Joseph Cathedral. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the chapel at 9:30. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 360 Route 101, Unit 501, Bedford, NH 03110 or the Sisters of the Precious Blood Monastery 700 Bridge Street, Manchester, NH 03104.
