Edward A. Serino, 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Northwood Friday, September 22, 2017 following a swift and recent onset of cancer. He took his last breaths in the company of his loving family.
Edward was born in Lynn, MA on October 23, 1943 to the late James Serino and Susan (Baklini) Serino. He was raised in Lynn and educated in area schools. He enlisted in the US Navy following high school graduation and proudly served his country, earning honorable discharge after 3 years of service. Shortly after his time in the military, Edward met Susan Kearney. The two were married in 1965 and together they raised 4 wonderful children. While supporting his young family, Edward earned a Bachelor's degree in Electronics from Fitchburg State University, which served him well during his decades-long career as an educator. He taught in the Peabody, Lynn, and Wakefield school districts as well as North Shore Community College and Coe Brown Academy in Northwood, NH. He eventually retired from teaching with his last job at Wakefield Vocational. In retirement Edward took up glass working, producing beautiful jewelry and glass art. He also enjoyed gardening and world travel with his wife to places including Hawaii and Italy. He was a member of Pembroke Pines Country Club where he participated in the Tuesday and Thursday night golf leagues and competed in state championships. Described by those who knew him best as a kind, solid, hardworking, charismatic man, Edward understood the value of friends and family. He was a loving and supportive husband and father who adored his grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Susan (Kearney) Serino; his daughter, Kristina (Olsson) Serino; daughter, Debra and husband James Stout; son, Richard Serino and wife Lucinda; daughter, Lisa and husband Tony Verrico; brother, Tom Serino and wife Lorraine; sister, Julia Ceceire; 10 grandchildren, Ryan, Brittany, Hailey, Amy, Aaron, Kayci, Owen, Jared, Isabella, and Anthony; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his mother, Edward was predeceased by his eldest son, Anthony Serino, and his brother, James Serino Jr.
Family and friends are invited to gather Tuesday, September 26th at 11:00am at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 172 King Street in Boscawen, NH. Funeral service will begin at 1:30pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at 2:30pm at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to CRVNA Hospice at Concord Regional VNA The Slusser Center, 30 Pillsbury Street, Concord, NH 03301 in thanks for the skilled and compassionate care provided by Edward's hospice nurses. Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium is assisting the family with arrangements.
