Edward Vieira, 86, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 30, 2018, at the Elliot Hospital surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy illness.
Born in Manchester, NH, he is the son of the late John and Carolina (Gomes) Vieira.
An honorably discharged veteran, Edward proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, from 1952 to 1954. Following his military career, Edward held a variety of positions at the VA Hospital Manchester for 32 years. After retiring from the VA Hospital, Edward worked for Meals on Wheels through St. Joseph Community Services Inc.
A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Edward was the pillar of strength for his family. He cherished time spent with his family and dear friends. An avid outdoorsman, Edward enjoyed deep sea fishing, attending NASCAR races, and camping. Edward and his wife, Laurette, love to travel to warm sandy beaches in Hawaii, Cancun, and throughout the Caribbean. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and square dancing. Edward will be best remembered for his kind heart and love of family. Edward was also a member of The Knights of Columbus and Sweeney Post.
Edward is survived by his wife, Laurette (Girard) Vieira, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage; daughter, Carol Lynne Vieira of Manchester; two sons, Gary Vieira and wife Monique of Manchester, Daniel Vieira and significant other Laura of MA; four grandchildren, Jessica and husband Rick, Matthew and wife Amber, Ted, and Alisa; two great grandchildren, Ava and Everett; two step-great grandchildren, Alex and Brendan. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Edward was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, William, and John Vieira.
ARRANGEMENTS: The Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated in the Blessed Sacrament Parish, 14 Elm St., Manchester on Thursday, April 5 at 10:00A.M. Edward will be laid to rest with Military Honors at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen, on Thursday, April 12 at 11:00A.M. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Edward's memory to the Precious Blood, 700 Bridge St., Manchester, NH 03104. Assisting the family with arrangements is the Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium.
