Elaine Smith, 66, of Townshend, VT passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Pine Heights at Brattleboro Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born in Boston, MA on October 4, 1950; the daughter of the late James and Helen (Anestis) Panagos.
Elaine was educated in the Braintree, MA school system, graduating from Braintree High School, class of 1968. She then went on to earn her Associate's Degree as a Registered Nurse. She was employed as an RN at Braintree Respiratory Hospital, Quincy Hospital and finally at Milford VNA.
Elaine enjoyed gardening on her hilltop property and cooking and baking for her family and friends. She had a passion for antique shopping and collecting cookbooks. While living in Vermont, she raised and cared for 5 dogs, whom she loved dearly, and numerous chickens with old lady names. Her friends and family could always rely on her for medical advice both holistic and traditional. She was the person who would always be there when you needed to talk to someone about something.
She is survived by her son, Christopher Smith of Worcester, MA; her daughter, Cassandra Holloway of Brattleboro, VT; her brother, John J. Panagos and his wife Joanne of Middleburg, FL; three sisters, Karen S. Darcy of E. Bridgewater, MA, Diane Keenan and her husband Richard of S. Weymouth, MA and Marilyn Panagos of Halifax, MA; her grandson, Gavin Holloway; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is predeceased by a brother, James N. Panagos.
There will be two celebrations of Elaine's life for friends and family. Saturday, May 6, 2017from 1 PM to 3 PM at the VFW, 295 Arsenal Street in Watertown, MA, and the following Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 11 AM-1 PM at the Calvary Chapel, 6591 Rt. 30, West Townshend, VT. The Pastor Ron Millette will be officiating. Both events are potluck. A private green burial will be held at Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery in Brattleboro, VT. The Ker-Westerlund Funeral Home, 57 High St., Brattleboro, VT has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Windham County Humane Society, 916 W River Rd, Brattleboro, VT 05301 or to the Brattleboro Area Prevention Coalition, P.O.
