ELEANOR SHIRLEY (SMITH) CHASE
LITTLETON, NH - Eleanor S. Chase went home to be with her Lord on June 19, 2009 after a long illness.
She was born on January 2, 1925, a daughter to Roy and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Smith in East Burke, VT. Eleanor married Robert Clifton (Bob) Chase on January 10, 1948.
Eleanor was a member of the Littleton First United Methodist Church for over 48 years and was involved in Bible Studies, the Membership Committee which she worked hard on, the United Methodist Women and the Ecumenical Breakfast Group, of which she was one of the original founders, for many years. She loved her church family and was supportive of all with her warm smile and caring. She ran a day care for many years and lovingly cared for many of the children of the area.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Chase of Franconia, NH; one son Clifton R. and wife, Linda Chase of Orange, MA; one daughter, Alice M. and Matt Cross of Fuquay-Varina, NC; six grandchildren, Steven Chase, Clifton Varney, Charles Floyd, Jr., Katrina Betts, Christine Blodgett, and Austin Cross; eight great-grandchildren, nieces, great nieces, great nephews, and a sister-in-law, Gertrude Smith of Scranton, PA. She also leaves her caregivers and best friends, Nancy and Charlie Collins, who she called her second daughter-in-law and son. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Arlene Hamel, her brother Irving Smith, and granddaughter, Abbey Beth Cross.
SERVICES A Memorial Service will be held on July 2nd, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sam Newton officiating, followed by a luncheon in the church hall. A committal service will be held in the East Burke Cemetery in East Burke, VT.
