ELEANOR L. THOMPSON
MECHANICSVILLE, VA -- Eleanor L. Thompson, 86, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, formerly of Littleton, NH, passed away on April 14, 2004 at her home after a brief illness.
Eleanor was born on August 5, 1917 in Rockport MA and was the only child of Herman and Lois (Law) Sherburne. She graduated from Gloucester, MA High School and received a Degree from Gorham, Maine Normal School.

Eleanor taught school in Vermont and many years at Lakeway Elementary School from where she retired. She spent most of her life in Littleton where she was active in many activities. Her most enjoyable pastime was spent on the square dance floor and was a Charter Member of the Littleton Squares Square Dance Club. She and Red traveled throughout northern New England to enjoy an evening or a weekend of square dancing and socializing. It was through this wonderful activity that she made many lasting friendships. Eleanor was also very active in the Rebekah and Eastern Star and held several offices within the groups. During her spare time she was always ready for a Scrabble game or a game of cards. Eleanor was a devoted and loving wife to Ernest (Red) and mother to Romaine.
She is survived by her son, Romaine and his wife Jeannette, of Mechanicsville, VA; three granddaughters, Kathleen Slayman of Mechanicsville, VA, Karen Campbell of White Post, VA, and Kimberly Nivera of Fairfax, VA; six great-grandchildren, Christine and Sarah Slayman, Savannah Campbell, Kaleigh, Kristin, and Jackson Nivera; four nieces, Darlene Woodbury, Donna Atkin, Carol Chase and Connie Thompson; and many other loving family members and friends. Her husband, Red Thompson, predeceased her on January 4, 1996.
SERVICES -- The family will receive friends on Monday, April 19th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union Street, Littleton. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 20th at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Stephen E. Bascom, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery.
