Elizabeth M. "Bette" Hand, 88, of Manchester, NH and formerly of Belmont, MA, Stamford, CT Havertown, PA, The Woodlands TX, and Hanover, NH passed away on March 18, 2024. She was born in Boston, MA on February 14, 1936. She was the daughter of the late John and Lena (Conrad) McLennan.
Elizabeth was raised in Belmont, MA and was a 1953 graduate of Belmont High School. She went on to study at Boston University serving her communities in the area of Social Services. After raising her daughter, Bette completed a degree in education from Springfield College in 1994, and enjoyed a career as an English Language Learning teacher for elementary school students.
Bette was a continual student of many eclectic passions; traveling in the US and abroad, all forms of the Arts (attending the Boston Pops, Boston Symphony Orchestra), Astrology, Metaphysics and Eastern philosophies. When mobility became challenging, her voracious reading habit continued to feed her interests.
Elizabeth is predeceased by her former husband of 20 years Walter Oliver Hand. Survived by their daughter Jessica Jenness and granddaughter Madeline Jenness, both of Goffstown, NH, as well as her nieces, Jill Bond, of New Jersey and Susan Helems of California and many lifelong friends from all walks of life. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, John “Jack” McLennan.
A graveside service will be held on April, 25th, 1PM, at Belmont Cemetery, 121 Grove Street, Belmont, MA. Private gathering to follow.
