ELIZABETH I. NIHAN
WHITEFIELD -- Elizabeth I. Nihan, 89, of Lisbon and later of years of Littleton, NH, died of natural causes at the Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield on Monday, March 17, 2003.
Elizabeth was born in Landaff, NH on May 27, 1913 to the parents of Edwin and Susan (Hines) Quimby. During her early childhood, her family moved to Route 302, Lisbon Rd. where she attended Salmon Hole School and Lisbon High School.
On December 16, 1931, Elizabeth married Maurice Nihan of Walker Hill, Lisbon, NH where they resided and farmed all of their working years. Her husband, Maurice, passed away in 1988. Elizabeth continued to reside on the property until 1993 when she moved to Colonial Court Apartments where she resided until 2002, at which time she moved to the Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield.
Elizabeth was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Lisbon, NH until she was no longer physically able to attend. She taught the Catholic Christian Doctrine to the children during the years that her children were young. Elizabeth and Maurice were members of the local Snowmobile Club for many years. She was very active in the Salmon Hole Ladies Auxiliary for many years and was news correspondent for The Courier reporting the Walker Hill News.
She enjoyed a very active farm life, being involved in her childrens activities, flowers, birds, hunting, knitting, and sewing in the years her children were growing up, and was an avid reader.
There were three children born to Elizabeth and Maurice; a son, who passed away very shortly after birth, and two daughters, Marjorie Laflamme of Littleton, NH and Barbara Buford of Bay City, Michigan. She had three grandchildren, Maurice Laflamme of Landaff, NH, Oliver Laflamme of Littleton, and Carla Burns of Saginaw, Michigan. She also had four great-grandchildren, Elise Laflamme and Oliver Laflamme of Littleton, NH, Tyra Laflamme of Landaff, NH, and Reginald Burns of Saginaw, Michigan.
SERVICES -- Funeral services were held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Lisbon on Thursday, March 20, 2003 with Rev. Fr. Daniel Sinibaldi as Celebrant. Burial will be at a later date in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Lisbon. A time of remembrance for family and friends was held prior to the funeral Mass at Pillsbury Funeral Home in Lisbon.
