Elizabeth H. Spangler

Elizabeth H. Spangler died on August 6, 2017. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland, daughter of Annie and James Hart. After the death of her mother when she was three years old, Betty, as she was known, and her father made the long sea voyage to Fremantle, Western Australia. They lived with relatives until her father remarried and gave her a stepmother, Grace and a stepsister, Jill.

During World War II, she met a US serviceman, and when the war ended, she came to America to marry Edward A. Provencal and make her home in New Hampshire. She worked as a secretary at the American Baptist Churches of Vermont and New Hampshire for thirty-four years. She was active in the former Methodist Church in Penacook and was State President and local President of the National Association of Letter Carriers Auxiliary.

After Edward's death in 1963, she married F. Russell Spangler, Sr. Russ died in 1979.

Family includes her sister, Jill Thorne of Australia, daughters, Lynette Currier and husband Paul of Andover and Beryl Towle and husband Scott of Epsom, four grandchildren, Edward Michel and wife Maria of Boscawen, Meredith Labraney and husband John of Concord, Aaron Currier and wife Melanie of Dunbarton, and Amber Brand and husband Tom, of Andover, MA. She also leaves eight great-grandchildren, Lucas Labraney, Ashley, Nathan, and Cody Michel, Ayla, Colton, and Allana Currier and Robin Brand. Also, her stepson F. Russell Spangler Jr, and wife Claudia and their children, Matthew and Heather. She also leaves relatives in Australia and Ireland.

Betty traveled back to Australia and Ireland. She loved her home in Penacook, her flower beds, screen house, writing letters, and getting together with family and friends. With help from her daughters, family, friends, and neighbors, Joe Keaton, Meals on Wheels, and Age At Home, she remained in her home until after her ninetieth birthday.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 11:00am Thursday, August 10th at Woodlawn Cemetery, 130 Village Street in Penacook. Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium is assisting the family with arrangements.
