Erasmia Orfanedes

Erasmia “Thelma” G. Orfanedes, 91, formerly of 30 Railroad Street, Andover, MA; died August 20, 2004 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. She was born in Irakleion on the Island of Crete in Greece on December 13, 1912, the daughter of Costas and Maria (Kongkis) Rethymiothakis. She came to America in 1934 and spent 39 years living in Norfolk, VA before moving to Andover in 1986. While in Virginia, she belonged to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and was active with the Philoptochos Ladies Society. She was the widow of Costas Orfanedes who died in 1980. Family members include a daughter, Maria Skaperdas of Manchester; two sons, George Orfanedes of Manchester and Angelo Orfanedes of Greer, SC; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; and nephews, nieces and cousins. Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street on Monday from 4 to 8 PM. The Trisageon service will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday evening. Funeral services will be on Tuesday morning at 10:00 in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
