ERMA GRACE (SMITH) SHELEY
LITTLETON, NH - Erma Grace (Smith) Sheley, 95, passed away on October 15, 2017 at Littleton Regional Hospital in Littleton, NH surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 4, 1922 at Lily Leaf Farm in Paullina, Iowa to Clarence and Vera (Harris) Smith. Her childhood years were spent in Paullina and she graduated Paullina High School in 1939. On September 7, 1940, she married B. LeRoy Sheley. They moved to the Boston area in 1940, where they raised their 3 children. She was predeceased by her husband in December 1961 and later moved to Whitefield, NH in 1965. She was employed at The Willows in Franconia, NH and later at Littleton Hospital in Littleton, NH.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Littleton, where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Emma Merrill Guild, and led Adult Bible Study Groups. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, baking, reading, writing, watching the Boston sports teams, and traveling. She had an eye for details, enjoyed a good laugh and took pleasure in baking cookies and making scrapbooks for family and friends.
She is survived by her sons: Loran (Patricia) Sheley of Little Deer Isle, ME and Rickman Sheley of Bath, ME; daughter: Christine Sheley (Joni Gray) of Littleton, NH; grandchildren: Eric (Kim) Sheley, Christopher (Karen) Sheley, Chad Lybrook, Blaine Lybrook, Erin (Dan) Cole, Katie Latulip (Sean Dodge), and Holly (Hazen) Converse; eight great-grandchildren: Allison, Taylor, Loran, Torrance, Jordan, Harlow, Elin, and Haddox; sister: Ione Kehoe; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by her sisters: twins Maureen Johnson and Arlene Lamont, Ruth MacPherson, and Ellen Rohwer; and half-siblings: Clarence Smith Jr, Russell Smith, and Lucille Sullivan.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Littleton Regional Hospital Palliative Care, 600 St. Johnsbury Rd., Littleton NH 03561, or to the First Congregational Church UCC, 189 Main St., Littleton NH 03561.
SERVICES -- A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church UCC, 189 Main St. in Littleton, N.H. on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at 2:00 p.m.
