Eugene P. Podbielski

Eugene P. Podbielski, 90, of Bedford, NH passed away peacefully December 23, 2022.

Eugene was born in Lowell, MA May 7, 1932, to Boleslaw and Stella (Kowalczyk) Podbielski. He grew up in Dorchester proudly served his country with the US Army from 1952 through 1958.  Eugene enjoyed a lengthy and accomplished career as an Optical Engineer, and he was very proud of his work on projects involving lenses for equipment used in space and for medical instruments. His expertise in the field of optics served him well until he entered retirement moving to Sneads Ferry, NC.

In his spare time, Eugene grew and tended to his award-winning orchids. He was also a lifelong learner, always eager to further educate himself and research new and innovative things. Never one to allow anything to go to waste, Eugene was a passionate repurposer of abandoned or unwanted items and took great joy in creating new and meaningful uses for his finds. 

Eugene is survived by his 4 children, Lisa Watson (Mark), William Podbielski, Nancy Lee (Kevin), and Susan DeCarlo (John); 3 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. He was predeceased in 2013 by his beloved wife of 52 years, Terry (Spillane) Podbielski.

Family and friends are invited to gather at 10:00am Wednesday, December 28^th  at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street in Manchester. Funeral service will begin at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel. Eugene will be laid to rest with military honors in Stratford, CT at a later date.
