Evangelos B. Tsingos

Evangelos B. Tsingos, 84, of Manchester, passed away at Catholic Medical Center on Nov. 22, 2015.He was born on Jan. 2, 1931, in Aspropyrgos, Attikis, Greece, the son of Basilios and Eleni (Antoniou) Tsingos. He played semi-professional soccer in Greece for Panaspropyrgiakos F.C. from 1947 to 1949. He proudly did his military service in the Greek Army, serving with NATO military intelligence. He studied at Panteion School of Political Science in Athens. In 1955, he immigrated to Canada to continue his studies at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He then moved to Montreal where he was a commercial real estate broker and restaurateur. He immigrated to the United States in 1973, moving to Manchester with his wife and children, where they opened the Renaissance Restaurant and successfully ran it until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and of AHEPA Chapter No. 44. He was an avid outdoorsman.Family members include his wife of 48 years, Vasso (Katsoulis Papas) Tsingos; a son, Basilios "Bill" Tsingos; and his wife, Martine, of Needham, Mass.; a daughter, Helen Tsingos of Revere, Mass.; two grandchildren, Evan and Otis Tsingos; and nephews, nieces, and cousins.

services: Callings hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St., Manchester, on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. The Trisagion service will take place at 7 p.m. during the calling hours. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 11 at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral with the V. Rev. Fr. Agathonikos M. Wilson officiating. Committal services will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover St., Manchester, NH 03104 or to the American Heart Association, 2 Wall St., Manchester, NH 03101.
