Eve Olitski, age 64, died unexpectedly in her home in W. Hartford, CT on Monday, November 5th, 2012. She was the daughter of renowned artist,Jules Olitski and Gladys (Katz) Olin Pactovis, also an artist.
Eve spent her life in the arts, as a graphic illustrator, painter, printmaker, poet and comedic writer, as well as stand-up performer. She held a BFA in Theater Design from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia School of the Arts. In 1978 she was awarded a National Endowment for her one act play Don't Jump! For years she was a regular contributor of pen and ink drawings to the New Yorker as well as producing the cover for that magazine in 1985. She's published illustrations for Harper Collins, MacMillan Publishers, The Atlantic Monthly, The Baltimore Sun, Ms Magazine and numerous others. She has exhibited her paintings throughout New England. Eve has often given of her time to charitable organizations, most recently teaching poetry and printmaking at Chrysalis in Hartford, CT.
She is survived by her mother, Gladys Olin Pactovis of Cedarhurst, N.Y., her sister Lauren Poster and brother-in law, Bradley Poster of Marlboro, VT, her niece and nephew Ariel and Harry Poster, both of Brooklyn, NY and her step-mother, Kristina Olitski of Islamorada, Fl.
Funeral Services will take place at the Jewish Cemetery, Congregation Shir He Harim in Brattleboro Vt at 3 pm on Friday, Nov. 9th. Call Ker-Westerlund Funeral Home at 802 254 7300 for directions. Friends and family will come together to celebrate Eve's life and artwork at EBK Gallery located at 43 Crossroads Plaza in West Hartford, Ct from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday, Nov 18th.
