Evelyn E. Hurd, 85, of Franklin passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 11, 2016.
Evelyn was born in Franklin on October 22, 1930 to Allen and Dorothy Cilley. She was a lifelong resident of Franklin and a graduate of Franklin High School. Evelyn worked for JP Stevens Woolen Mills until they closed, and then worked at Webster Valve. In her later years, Evelyn was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed spending time with her sisters participating in activities with the Senior Center at T.R.I.P. She enjoyed sewing, walking and gardening, but there was nothing more important to Evelyn than her family. She was a true gem and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Evelyn is survived by her four children, Andy Hurd and his wife, Lorretta of Franklin, Raymond Dow and his wife, Bonnie of Northfield, Brenda Hunt and her husband, David of Laconia and David Hurd and his wife, Connie of Franklin; brothers, Wayne Cilley and wife, Lorraine, Glen Cilley and wife, Valerie, and Karl Grant; sisters, Beverly Chapman, Pat Chase, Virginia Fecteau and husband, Joe, and Kathy Lavigne and husband, Frank; brother-in-law, Bob Sharon; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was predeceased in 2011 by her husband, Benjamin H. Hurd Jr., her sisters, Charlotte and Emma and her brothers-in-law Robert and Colin.
Family and friends are invited to gather Friday, February 19th 11:00am-noon at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 172 King Street in Boscawen. A memorial service will begin at noon in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow immediately at the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, donations in Evelyn's memory may be made to the Senior Center at T.R.I.P. with a check made payable to Community Action Program Belknap-Merrimack Counties, Inc.
