Evelyn B. Wellwood, 94, Of Vernon, VT passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Vernon Green Nursing Home in Vernon. She was born in Hinsdale, NH on January 14, 1920, the daughter of the late Marvin and Hazel (Hudson) Barrett.

Evelyn was educated in the Hinsdale school system, class of 1939. After high school she worked for A.G. Spaulding, making tennis rackets, until 1946. She then owned and operated Wellwood Store in West Brattleboro for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed eating lobster, traveling around the country with her husband Earl, and lighthouses. Evelyn was very spiritual, she wasn't afraid to embrace life or death.

She is predeceased by her husband, Earl Wellwood in 1988; and two brothers, Winston and Donald Barrett.

She is survived by a brother, Albert Barrett and a sister, Ethelyn Stephens, both of FL; a special nephew, Wesley Richardson and his wife Helen of Nova Scotia; Dottie Class, who she considered her adopted daughter, and Robin Zegge, her adopted granddaughter both of Brattleboro. When asked how they were related Evelyn would say, "We are not related by blood, but related by love"; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Sczesny, Rick and Liz Morton, and the entire staff of Vernon Green for showing kindness, care and compassion for Evelyn.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 from 10:00 am to 10:30 am at KER-WESTERLUND FUNERAL HOME, 57 High St., Brattleboro, VT. A Celebration of life will be held at 10:30 am in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Windham County Humane Society, 916 W River Rd, Brattleboro, VT 05302.
