Faith Colby Kounkoulas, 98, of Whitefield, NH, passed away on September 24th, 2025. Born in 1927 to Asa and Velma Colby, Faith was raised in Rumney Depot with her 7 siblings. Attending the local two room schoolhouse, she graduated from Plymouth High in 1944. She then headed to Manchester, where she graduated from Hesser Business College as president of the class of 1945. There she met her husband to be Nicholas, whom also graduated from Hesser after returning from WWII. Married in 1948, they relocated to Littleton, NH where Nick set up an IRS office and Faith soon became employed by the Littleton Social Security Administration. Retiring after 36 years, she was often recognized for her extensive knowledge. After retirement, she worked or volunteered at various places once manning a crisis hotline.

Faith and Nick spent many happy years on Herbert Lane where they raised their two daughters Diane and Carol. Faith enjoyed golfing at Maplewood Country Club and later joined The Bethlehem CC where she enjoyed participating in the many scrambles and fun events. She had many bowling trophies and took various art classes. She painted many stunning pictures. She was a member of the Littleton Congregational Church where she sang in the choir and was known for her skills on the piano and accordion.

Widowed in 1976 with her daughters grown, she built her dream house on Edencroft Drive where she painted, papered, laid slate floors and always planted and tended many beautiful flowering shrubs and flowers. She was fiercely independent and self sufficient. She spent hours moving rocks and landscaping and it wasn’t unusual to find her on her tractor or snowblowing her driveway. Even when she downsized to an apartment, she still managed to have a plot of dirt where she could raise cucumbers and tomatoes. She had a true green thumb.

She enjoyed bragging about her five grandchildren, celebrating their birthdays and attending their dance recitals and sporting events. She loved playing card games, dominoes and cribbage with her grandchildren and friends, whether getting together with her neighbors, traveling to game get-togethers or driving through Franconia Notch (in her 80s) once a week to play cribbage in Lincoln.

She spent the last seven years at the Summit by Morrison in Whitefield, where she continued her love of cards with residents and staff and was well known by the activity directors as she participated in any and all games. She was the queen of Kings In The Corner, which she played every day for years. She always looked forward to the musicians who performed, especially those who graciously sang Crazy by Patsy Cline for her. The family would like to extend our thanks to the staff at the Summit, those visiting musicians and North Country Home Health and Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.

Faith was predeceased by her siblings Ira, Cyril, Aurelius(Sonny), Beulah, Ida and Lillian. She was also predeceased by her husband Nicholas in 1976 and her daughter Diane Peterson in 2021. Survivors include her daughter Carol Swedberg (John) of Meredith, NH and her five grandchildren Anna and Ellen Peterson, Nicholas (Chaya), Sophia and Lydia Swedberg, one great granddaughter and her sister Alberta Clark of Utah and many nieces and nephews.

A private burial will take place at Glenwood Cemetery in Littleton. Funeral arrangements were provided by Phaneuf Funeral Home of Littleton.
