Florence “Flossie” Louise Young Ruggles,78, died Friday January 23, 2026, at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH. She was born on April 5, 1947, in Hanover, NH; she was the daughter of Arthur Young and Hannah Emery. She was the widow of Stephen “Steve” Ruggles.
Flossie grew up in Swiftwater, NH and was educated at Bath Village School through the sixth grade and later attended Woodsville High School through the eleventh grade. She married her first love, Carl Marsh Sr., and together they raised three children: Louise, Jennifer, and Carl Jr. It was with Carl that Flossie moved to Littleton, NH. Flossie and Carl later divorced but remained lifelong friends.
Flossie found love again with Harold Smith, with whom she had a daughter, Lavender. Later in life, she married Steve Ruggles, and they shared 33 devoted years of marriage before his death. Family remained at the heart of Flossie’s life, and she took great pride in the family she built.
Flossie found joy in quilting and was an active member of the Congregational Church in Littleton. She especially cherished spending time at camp, no matter the season, finding peace and happiness in the outdoors. Always ready for a joy ride or a new adventure, Flossie embraced life with an open heart, a curious spirit, and a love for togetherness that will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
She is predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Carl Marsh Sr., former partner, Harold Smith, her second husband, Steve Ruggles, and her brother, Arthur Young.
Flossie is survived by her children: Louise Nichols (Steven), Jennifer Marsh-Crowe, Carl Marsh Jr. (Patience), and Lavender Marsh (Ryan Albert); siblings: Irene Breault (Joseph), and Alfred Young (Deb); her grandchildren: Stephanie Cogswell, Krystal Miller, Kyle Marsh, Jacob Marsh-Crowe, Charlotte Albert, and Artemis Albert; great grandchildren: Carter Cogswell, Hunter Cogswell, and another great grandchild on the way. She is also survived by her friend, Theresa Griggs and many extended family members who will love and miss her greatly.
Services: A visitation will be held beginning at 11AM on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Phaneuf Funeral Home in Littleton, NH, with a funeral service following the visitation beginning at noon. Rev Lyn Winter will be officiating. Please feel free to dress casually. The date and time of her burial and graveside service will be announced in the spring of 2026.
