Floyd S. Brown

Bethlehem, Floyd S. Brown, 84, of Agassiz St., passed away on Tuesday, August 17th at his home of 55 years. He was born February 27, 1926 into the family of Roy and Ethel Brown, the sixth of seven children. Floyd was born and brought up in Twin Mountain, and as a teenager began working as a chauffeur at Bill Clarks garage in Bethlehem. It is at that time when he met the love of his life, Muriel. They were married in Pinehurst, NC in 1944 and celebrated 63 years together until her passing in 2007. Their children are: Bruce and wife, Clare; Alan and wife Sheri; Curtis and wife, Deborah; and daughter, Melody and husband Jack, along with seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He entered the Army in 1944 and spent time in England and Germany and was involved in the War Crime trials. He was discharged as a Corporal.

Having spent most of his life in Bethlehem, Floyd was well known, loved and respected by many. He was a talented contractor and built many homes in the area. He loved his work and for a time his three sons all worked with him. He was always proud of their abilities and loved swapping jokes and stories as they worked side by side. When he came home from work he enjoyed the antics and humor of his only daughter, Melody. The wink and twinkle in Floyds eye and his quick wit will be missed by many.

Anyone who knew Floyd knew that he loved his family, the Red Sox and barbershop music. He always felt that there was nothing more beautiful than the perfect harmony of a barbershop quartet and the Red Sox winning a game as he managed the team from the comfort of his chair.

Floyd loved Bethlehem and didnt care to stray far from there. He was an active member of the Maplewood Lodge #100 I.O.O.F. for 46 years, a member of the fire dept. and active in the Durrell United Methodist Church. He was a Village District Commissioner for many years. After he retired he often worked as a clerk of the works for the district on construction projects. Around town, Floyd was known as the sidewalk superintendent as he was always around and watching as things went up and down. When his children were young he was involved in the PTA, Ski Club and helped coach Little League.

Memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Heritage Society or the Durrell United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 22nd at 2 pm at the Durrell Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Kelly Harvell officiating. The family will have a private committal service at Maple Street Cemetery. Arrangements and care have been entrusted to Keller & Pillsbury Funeral Homes.
