Frank “Butch” George, age 78, of Manchester, NH passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester.

Born July 20, 1947, in Manchester, NH, Frank was the son of Charles “Chipso” and Patricia (O’Kelley) George, both deceased. He grew up on Page Street and attended Weston School before going to Manchester Central High School where he played football from 1962 to 1965.

Frank enlisted in the United States Navy after finishing high school in 1966 and was stationed aboard the USS Essex (CVS-9) aircraft carrier in Quonset Point, Rhode Island. He was deployed to the Mediterranean region allowing him to travel extensively, including trips to Nepal, the Island of Malta, the French Riviera, Barcelona, Portsmouth, Amsterdam, and Hamburg. Frank was also part of the Apollo 7 recovery mission on October 22, 1968-the first Apollo “Splashdown” in NASA history. He was honorably discharged in December 1968 and worked for Manchester's Highway Department from 1969 until retiring in 2003.

Frank dedicated over 40 years of his life to helping others in Alcoholics Anonymous. He was a constant presence, offering support, guidance and understanding to those seeking recovery. The impact he had on others through this work is immeasurable.

Frank was known for his humor, stubbornness, loyalty, and endless generosity. He had a deep love for sports, with a special devotion to the Boston Red Sox and Patriots, and a huge passion for rock & roll. He had a lifelong love for dogs beginning with his childhood cocker spaniel, Princess, and continuing with his golden retrievers Bud, Rusty, and Gizmo, all beloved members of his family. Above all, Frank was known for his strength and resilience. After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 30 years ago, he refused to let it define him and continued to walk until his final days.

He is survived by his children Christopher George, Leandra George, and Jennifer George, his grandchildren Sara Ramirez, Brianna George, and Jose Rueda, as well as his brother William George, and extended family. He is predeceased by his daughter Stephanie Ramirez, grandson Emmanuel George, and brother James Martin.

Frank is also survived by his former wife Cindy Krol, and by his former wife June George who remained a constant, devoted presence, and dear friend in his life and care.

Let us remember Frank for his kindness and generosity and honor him by living with the same spirit. As he often said, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow’s a mystery, today is a gift.” It is our honor to celebrate the incredible spirit that is Frank George.
