Frank B. Mesmer

Frank (Joe) B. Mesmer, Sr. of Auburn, NH and Palmetto, FL passed away peacefully at the Elliot Hospital March 9, 2021 at age 93.

Frank was born in Scranton, PA on July 12, 1927 to Frank A. Mesmer and Ethel (Murtha) Mesmer. Frank graduated from St. John's Prep in Danvers, MA and Boston College. He served in the Merchant Marine and as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. Frank started his career at Standard Duplicating Machines until buying Pioneer Business Machines in 1968, moving his family from Wellesley, MA to Manchester, NH. In retirement, Frank was a snowbird to Palmetto, FL on the Manatee River first with Shirley and later with Gerri, and he enjoyed lots of traveling and visiting friends and family.

Frank was a lifetime mariner and an avid sailor, founding the Learn to Sail program at the Manchester Yacht Club. He also enjoyed skiing, golf, football, ice skating, and pretty much any recreational sport. He was also a talented artist. Frank loved beaching with kids and cousins in Cape Cod summers and all personal connections and gatherings with family and friends. He started an Oktoberfest tradition that lasted 35 years to celebrate the many Mesmer October birthdays. He and his fun will be missed.

Frank is survived by his children: Frank Mesmer and wife Carollee (Novak) Mesmer of Manchester, NH, Sheila (Mesmer) Smith of South Yarmouth, MA, Karen Mesmer and her partner Kathy Donahue Son of Kennebunk, ME, Christopher Mesmer of Cummington, MA, and Gregory Mesmer and Sue (Kruesser) Mesmer of North Reading, MA; his life partner Gerri Thomas; grandchildren Joshua Mesmer, Eric Mesmer and partner Ashley Berberian, Griffin Mesmer and wife Annie (Shannon) Mesmer, Irina Mesmer, Weston Smith and wife Claudia, Scott Smith, Oliver Mesmer, and Justin Mesmer; and great-grandchildren Vivian and Bennett Smith, Ethan Mesmer, and Griffin Mesmer. He was pre-deceased by his brothers John and Peter Mesmer, his wife Nancy Fallon Mesmer, and his second wife Shirley Baker Mesmer.

A public celebration of his life will be held later this year when the world is more safe. Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Manchester, is in charge of arrangements. To view an Online Tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.phaneuf.net.
