Fred Joseph Gilbert, Jr, 84, of Littleton, NH, died March 3, 2010 at Dartmouth Medical Center in Hanover after a short illness. He was born February 17, 1926, in Landaff, NH to Fred and Mildred (Smith) Gilbert. He grew up in Landaff and attended the one room, eight grade Blue School and then graduated from Lisbon High School. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the European, African and South Pacific theaters. Fred retired as a Sergeant from the Littleton Police force after serving nearly 30 years. He was an avid sportsman, loved hunting, fishing, woodworking and carpentry. Fred was a multi-tasker and there wasnt anything he could not fix. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald; sisters, Mary DeFosse and Cora Wright. Fred is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Dale (MacDonald) Gilbert; a son, Fred III, daughter, Pamela Green, both of Oregon; sister-in-law, Jane Maguire, of Meredith; sister-in-law, Lynn Merrill and husband Fred, of New Boston; grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Fred was a good and helping friend and neighbor and will be missed by all. He leaves his special and loving Chocolate Lab Coco and loved his Coffee Group  the family will miss their Mister. A VFW Service will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Keller & Pillsbury Funeral Home in Littleton beginning at 5 pm with calling hours following until 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 8, 2010 at Littleton Methodist Church beginning at 1 pm officiated by Rev. Sam Newton and Rev. Lyn Winter. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements and care have been entrusted to Keller & Pillsbury Funeral Homes.
