Frederick W. Kendall

Frederick W Kendall passed away peacefully on October 6th, 2017 in Sequim, Washington in the presence of family and friends. At 101 years young, he had a life full of experiences and adventures almost to the very end.

Born on August 3, 1916 in Danvers, Massachusetts to Edward and Evelyn Kendall, Fred's family also included a younger brother, Charles, whom he loved dearly. His family were early settlers of Franconia, New Hampshire and Fred was a long time resident of Sugar Hill, New Hampshire.

Fred moved to New York City, married, and became a radio officer on the Pan-American Clipper, which took him around the world numerous times. Later, as he built homes in Florida, he set his sights on designing and building his own home in Sugar Hill, which he began the summer of 1969. Many locals spent time in the A-frame on Rt. 18, and many others, called it home.

During his time in Florida, Fred returned to his radio officer roots and became a merchant marine. He traveled the world, enjoyed experiences many only dream of, and shared his adventures with everyone. His world travels, easy smile and optimistic outlook drew people of all ages to his circle. Many locals will remember the dam in Bethlehem and apple orchard on the Profile Road that he worked and loved so much. His sense of adventure was second to none.
Fred pursued and received his private pilot license at the age of 65, purchased a small plane and began to fly cross country every winter to enjoy the Phoenix sun, and returned to Sugar Hill each summer to enjoy the natural beauty and adventure of every river and stream in the North Country. He loved his life and all the people in it.

Fred had a huge heart and gave to others without expectations of anything in return. He raised 3 children as his own, and once we were grown and gone, he continued to give his home, love, guidance and advice to numerous others throughout his life. He was blessed with the joy of experiencing not only grandchildren, but also great grandchildren. Fred was loved and adored by all who knew him.

Fred is survived by his children, Pamela (Hess) Newman and her husband, Richard, of Sequim, WA; Barry Hess and his wife, Gina of Glendale, AZ; and Gregory Hess of Littleton, NH; his nephews, Richard Kendall and his partner Julie Hoffman of Reno, NV; and Alan Kendall of Atlanta, GA as well as a niece, Susan Kendall, of Atlanta, GA. Fred's family included grandchildren, Nicholas Hinerth and his wife Kelly; Benjamin Hess; Zelig Hess; great nieces Courtney, Jessica and Sarah Kendall and great nephew Nate Kendall; along with great grandchildren Madelyn and Finley Hinerth.
