Gene R. Garretson, 75, of Manchester, NH died on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at his residence in Manchester in the company and care of children Roger, Bryan, and Dara Garretson.
Mr. Garretson was born on April 5, 1942, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of the late Raymond S. and Mildred J. (Brooks) Garretson. He was predeceased by his wife Helen E. (Draher) Garretson, step-mother Blanche Garretson, brothers Paul (Rosie) Garretson and Gary Garretson, sister Gail Kelly, and sons Russell G. Garretson and Michael G. Garretson.
Mr. Garretson is survived by many children and grandchildren: his daughter w. the late Bobette (Lowe) Garretson - Kelly J. (Steve) Johnson and grandchildren Tyler (Ashley) Essman, Spenser (Erin) Essman and Emily Johnson of Olathe, KS; his daughter w. Eugenia A. (O'Donnell) Anderson - Shirley J. (Michael) Donley and grandson Zachary Donley of Butler, PA; his stepson w. the late Helen E. Garretson - Daniel D. Sinclair of Orlando, FL; his children w. Sherry L. Garretson - son Roger W. (Lea) Garretson and their son Elijah M. Garretson and daughter Laney E. Garretson of New Boston, NH; son Bryan A. (Jennifer) Garretson and their son Spencer J. Garretson and daughter Penelope M. Garretson of Kent, WA; daughter Dara L. Garretson of Merrimack, NH.

Mr. Garretson is also survived by multiple siblings: his sister Joan E. Garretson, sister Judith E. (Joseph) Brungs, brother John G. Garretson, and sister Jennifer K. (Nic Stover) Garretson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Garretson was a veteran of the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant after 26 years of dedicated service. Afterwards, he entered a new career as a government contractor, specializing in logistics for large-scale military hardware design and development, including the Department of Defense and, proudly, NASA.
He had a great love for computer science, and was passionate about self-improvement through education. He enthusiastically pursued his B.A. in Business Administration in his late forties, followed by an M.B.A. in International Business in his early fifties, at Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire. His most enduring hobby was his interest in computers, started in the mid-eighties until after retirement, when he enjoyed custom-building them for friends and family. He enjoyed diverse musical tastes, backyard wildlife photography, and he especially cared for his Shetland Sheepdog 'Colin', whom he raised with his late wife Helen.
SERVICES: A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 6:00 PM at the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street, in Manchester. A memorial gathering will follow from 7 – 8 PM in the funeral home chapel. Plans for internment at Arlington National Cemetery will be finalized at a future date.
It has been suggested that those who wish may make memorial gifts to the nonprofit Easterseals NH 'Veterans Count' program (http://vetscount.org/) or Meals on Wheels of NH (https://www.mealsonwheelsnh.org/) both of which help veterans and seniors remain comfortable in their homes for as long as possible in the late stages of their lives.
