Gene C. Sanborn, 71, of Salisbury, NH, passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 9, 2025. Born in Franklin, NH on November 23, 1954, Gene was the only child of Eugene and Elsie (Verril) Sanborn.
Gene grew up in Franklin and graduated from Merrimack Valley High School. After graduation he went on to work at a local tannery, later joining Carroll Concrete, before beginning a 37-year career with the State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation, where he served as a construction foreman. He also worked on the Old Man Of the Mountain in the years before it fell. Following his retirement from the DOT, Gene continued to enjoy meaningful work in masonry alongside his nephew, Keith Mcleod.
An avid outdoorsman, Gene found joy in hunting deer, bear, and turkey, and spending peaceful days fishing. He loved working outside in the yard and spent countless hours skillfully maintaining his home and property. He found great pleasure in riding his motorcycle and was always up for a “junk it” ride, exploring the backroads of New Hampshire in search of hidden treasures and scenic views. Above all, Gene was known as a devoted husband, father, and Papa, whose family was the center of his world.
Gene is survived by his wife, Cindy (Remillard) Sanborn; his son, Gene Sanborn Jr. and wife Melissa of Maine; his daughters, Michelle Sanborn and fiancée Jeremy Cornell of Salisbury, NH, and Heather Sanborn of Dracut, MA; his cherished grandchildren, Makayla Sanborn and Hailee and Kaitlin Adjutant; and his faithful friend and “baby dog”, Dutch.
Family and friends are invited to gather in his memory on Wednesday, December 17th from 10:30am to 12:30pm at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 172 King Street, Boscawen, NH.
