Gennaro âGerryâ Iorio, 89, of Manchester died February 27, 2007 at Elliot Hospital.
Gerry was born on October 6, 1917 the son of Philip and Catherine (Rullo) Iorio. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Long Island. Gerry joined the US Air Force and was stationed at Grenier Field in Manchester where he met and married Jackie (Roberts). They soon had children and began their life as a military family traveling throughout the country and world. Together they were stationed in, New York, Texas, Louisiana, Okinawa, Hawaii and eventually Orlando, Florida where Gerry retired as a Master Sergeant in 1964. He was a World War II and Korean War veteran and served his country for over 25 years.
In his earlier years, Gerry enjoyed playing cards and bowling and later picked up the game of golf. He had an appreciation for all types of music and was a wonderful dancer. After spending several years in Orlando, Gerry, his wife, Jackie and family returned to New Hampshire in 1968. Although officially retired, Gerry had a gift for tending bar and did so at several fine establishments, like the Holiday Inn in Nashua, Sheraton Wayfarer in Bedford, Kings Grant Inn in Campton and from 1979 until 1985 Steele Hill Resort in Laconia. His family and patrons will remember him for his mischievous grin and unique sense of humor. He was predeceased by his wife, Jackie (Roberts) Iorio in 1988. Following her death, Gerry returned to Florida where he remained until several months ago when he became a resident of Hanover Hill.
Family members include; two sons, Philip Iorio of Alabama and Arnold Iorio of Florida; four daughters, Jackie Goodson of Manchester, Marilyn Carbone of Florida, Catherine Peyton of Florida and Karen Garon of Auburn; 18 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; two sisters, Ann Klodowski of SC and Grace Barker of FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Monday morning, March 5th from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street with funeral services to follow at Noon in the funeral home chapel. Committal services will immediately proceed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
