George Albert Franklin

George A. Franklin, 89, of Goffstown, died August 25, 2009 at Bedford Hills Care and Rehab Center in Bedford. He was born in Port Monmouth, NJ on October 6, 1920, the son of Albert and Margaret (Anderson) Franklin. He resided for most of his life in Monmouth and retired to Edgewood, FL in 1995. In 2006, he and his moved to Goffstown to be closer to their children. In His Life: As a young boy, he spent summers on his grandfather's houseboat in Beach Haven, NJ where he clammed and sold his catch to local fisheries to help support his family. As a teenager, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, working throughout the US. The day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, he joined the US Navy and served until the end of the War. Upon returning home, he worked for Bendix Corporation in Eatontown, NJ where he stayed for thirteen years. He then began a new career working for the Board of Education in Middletown, NJ. He became a school bus driver and soon assumed the duties of "head" bus driver. For 15 of his 20 years there, he drove special needs children to and from school, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He was also a member of the Middletown Township Police Force in Middletown, NJ for many years. He was a charter member of the VFW Post 2179 in Middletown. Family members include his wife of 67 years, Florence (Van Glahn) Franklin; a son, Albert G. Franklin and his wife Madeleine of Goffstown; a daughter, Beverly A. Hallmark and her husband Rene of Hollis; four grandchildren, David Franklin of Hopkinton, MA, Gregory Franklin of Merrimack; Christine Hallmark and Stephen Hallmark, both of Hollis; a sister, Estella Herbert of Zephyr Hills, FL; and nephews, nieces and cousins. Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St., on Friday from 10:00 AM to Noon. A funeral service will take place in the funeral home chapel at Noon. A committal service with military honors will follow at 1:30 PM in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road SW, Suite 202C Atlanta, GA 30047.
