George A. Gatzoulis

January 22, 1938 — March 15, 2025

Manchester, NH

George A. Gatzoulis, 87, of Manchester, passed away at his residence on March 15, 2025, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Pentalofos, Kozanis, Greece on January 22, 1938, the son of the late Alexandros and Efstathia “Effie” (Veziris) Gatzoulis. George and his family immigrated to America from Greece on July 11, 1955. They settled in Manchester, New Hampshire where George enrolled at, and attended, Central High School. He completed his education at the University of New Hampshire where he received his degree in electrical engineering.

George worked as a civilian electrical engineer for the United States Navy for many years. He first began his career in Washington, D.C. After spending thirteen years in Washington, George moved back to New Hampshire to be closer to his family. After returning, George worked as an electrical engineer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He then transferred to the Naval Sea Systems Command (SUBMEPP) in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where he worked until his retirement. In total, George served in the United States Government for over thirty-five years.

When George returned to Manchester, he purchased a plot of land where he designed and built his forever home. He did so with the help of his father, Alexandros, his brother, Bill, and many friends and family. George continued to build, as he obtained his real estate license, purchased, and managed several apartment buildings in addition to his primary work. In 2004, he founded GAO Properties, LLC and made his most significant purchase in the form of a small two-story commercial building in downtown Manchester which became home to his wife’s business – Olga’s Tailor Shop.

In his free time, George was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with his friends on Cape Cod. He was a long-time member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and volunteered his time during the church’s annual Glendi festival. George also gave countless hours to the Pan-Macedonian Association, an organization that is dedicated to the protection and promulgation of the history of Macedonia and Alexander the Great, as well as Greek culture and history. Under the Pan-Macedonian banner, George served as both the New England Governor and Supreme Secretary for the Association. George also organized the Pan-Macedonian Study Center in New York City. Further, George authored and published a book in honor of the Pan-Macedonian Association’s 50th Anniversary. Following his stints as the Governor and Supreme Secretary, George continued his service to the Association by serving as President of the local chapter in Manchester for many years.

In addition to the Pan-Macedonian Association, George dedicated time to serving his home village of Pentalofos through his service as both President and Secretary of the Pentalofos Brotherhood in Manchester. Through the Brotherhood, George helped organize fundraisers where proceeds were sent to his village to pay for various projects, including renovating the Village’s church. Other organizations where George was involved include the Order of AHEPA, an organization dedicated to promoting Greek culture and engaging in philanthropic endeavors. He was also a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers.

Family members include his wife, Olga (Siggeris) Gatzoulis; a son, Alexander G. Gatzoulis and his wife Katie Kielbasinski-Gatzoulis of Manchester; a daughter, Maria-Stella Gatzoulis of Maryland; two Godchildren, Adam and Katalina Hojax; a brother Vasilios “Bill” Gatzoulis and his wife Nina of Dover; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
