GEORGE H. LIPPARD
LISBON, NH -- George H. Lippard, age 90 passed away at Littleton Regional Hospital on Thursday, September 30th after a brief illness.
George was born September 13, 1918 in Philadelphia PA. As a child his parents Herman and Emma (Schoffstall) Lippard, brought George to the White Mountains of New Hampshire to vacation. He never forgot the mountains and when he had the chance to move to New Hampshire to retire he was glad to do so.
A graduate of North Carolina State in Ceramic Engineering, WWII changed his major and sent him to Yale University as a cadet to become a commissioned Aeronautical Maintenance Engineer. During the war, George served as a Maintenance Engineer for B-24 and B-29 aircraft, Statistical Officer and Weight and Balance Officer in the US Army Air Corps, first at the West Coast Command, Kirkland Field New Mexico and then overseas in Barrackpore India. As part of the China-Burma-India Air Transport Command he was a Captain in the Hump Wing Weight and Balance Command, tasked with making sure troops and supplies flew safely through the Himalayas. During the Korean Conflict he was connected with The Ready Reserve Air Transport Command.
During his long career, George was a layout draftsman for the control fin and rudder on the B-29 bomber, a Weight and Stress Engineer on the pioneer rotorcraft (helicopter) and on the Power Car 100 mph train for General Motors. He left the engineering field to join his father in the Rapitag Needle Company which his father founded in 1929. They co-designed and patented 12 different printing and tagging items for the garment industry including self-threading needles and the first movable print tag printing machine. These items enjoyed a worldwide market well into the 1980s.
In his spare time, George was an accomplished artist in the medium of oils. He enjoyed model railroading and gardening and at the age of 72 he bought a saddle horse and learned how to ride. He continued to tinker in his shop and regale the great grand children with stories from times gone by.
George was predeceased by his wife, Rebecca Jean and is survived by his sons Ronald, and his wife Ina of Lisbon, Wayne and his wife, Carol of Lantana, FL and a daughter, Barbara Sherman of Nevada, also Ron and Inas daughter, Kathy and four great grand children.
