George Symes, 65, of Manchester, died April 9, 2005, at his home. He was born in Milton, Massachusetts on November 12, 1939, the son of the late Frederick and Mary (Adams) Symes and resided in Massachusetts for most of his life before moving to Manchester 15 years ago. He was a US Navy Veteran. George graduated from Milton High School in Dorchester, Massachusetts. He received his Associates Degree at Bunker Hill College in Charlestown, Massachusetts and received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Massachusetts. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Symes retired as Sargent from the Boston Police Department after 20 years of service. He was a former member of the Detective Benovolence Society, past representative of B.P.P.A., and member of the Superior Office Federation. Family members include his wife of 9 years, Dottie (Mealey) Symes of Manchester, a daughter, Deborah Puopolo of Quincy, Massachusetts, a son, Edward F. Symes, US Navy stationed in Seattle, three grandchildren, four step sons; James T. Mealey of Manchester, Christopher J. Mealey of Braintree, Massachusetts, John M. Mealey of South Boston, Massachusetts and Joseph R. Mealey of Manchester, 14 step grandchildren, an aunt, Sophie Hill of Yarmouth, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, several cousins. SERVICES: A Memorial Reception will be held at the Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH on Saturday afternoon, April 30th from 1 to 2:30 with the service immediately following at 2:45 oclock in the funeral home chapel.
