Gerard A. Desmarais, 78, of Bedford, died March 15, 2002, at the Elliot Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Manchester on October 4, 1923, the son of the late Emile and Georgianna (Vanasse) Desmarais and had been a resident of Manchester for most of his life. Gerard attended local schools. He was a WW II Army veteran and served in the Europena Theatre. He belonged to the American Legion Stevens-Buswell Post # 54. Mr. Desmarais worked for Table Talke Pie for 20 years and McKelvie School in Bedford for 13 years. He loved gardening. Family members include his wife of 57 years, Rita (Philibert) Desmarais of Bedford, three sons, Donald G. Desmarais of Epsom, NH, Raymond A. Desmarais of Williamstown, NJ and Paul R. Desmarais of Milford, NH, a daughter, Mrs. David (Pauline) Patten of Hooksett, NH, nine grandchildren, one great grandson, a brother, Andre ''Andy'' Desmarais, two sisters, Mrs. Yvette (Provencher) Sherbut and Mrs. Roland (Therese) Laflamme, all of Manchester, several nieces, nephews and cousins. SERVICES: Calling hours are at the Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 250 Coolidge Avenue, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian will be celebrated Monday morning at 10 o'clock in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, NH.
