Gerard Gerry Lemay
Gerard Leo Lemay 91, of Manchester, passed away at Evergreen Place, on November 23, 2018 after a long battle with cancer.
"Gerry" was born on August 1, 1927 in Amesbury, Massachusetts. The family moved to Manchester, NH in 1930. He was the son of Clemence and C. Joseph Lemay and loving husband of Priscilla (Leblanc) Lemay, who passed away in 2005. They were happily married for 56 years. Their children, Charles Lemay, Claudia Michael and Sylvia Smith, his brother Normand Lemay and wife Adrianne survive him. He is also survived by five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren along with his companion Lorraine Charron. His siblings, Maurice Lemay, Robert Lemay and Pauline Lemay, predeceased him.
After graduating from West High School in 1945, Gerry served in the US Navy on the USS Steinaker destroyer, an escort carrier that traveled up and down the Atlantic from 1945 to 1946. He was employed as a switchman for the New England Telephone Company until his retirement in 1990. In retirement Gerry volunteered for the Church of the Transfiguration as a Eucharistic minister, serving communion to veterans at the VA Hospital in Manchester and local communicants unable to attend services. He also volunteered with the Catholic War Veterans Association. Before his illness, Gerry enjoyed home improvement projects, playing cards with his friends and family gatherings. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. The family thanks the employees of Evergreen Place for their compassionate care.
Calling hours will be held at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 250 Coolidge Ave., Manchester on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10:00 in the Parish of the Transfiguration. Committal services with military honors will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
