Glykeria Tsoubanos beloved Wife, Mother, Yiayia, and Thia passed away Wednesday, 11 July 2012 after a period of declining health.
She was the Daughter of Demetrios and Martha (Kotadimou) Makris. She was born on 07 April 1919 in Agia Paraskevi, Konitsis, Epirus, Greece. She immigrated to this country in June 1956 with her Husband and three Sons, the youngest Son just 50 days old.
Glykeria loved to cook, bake, tend to her vegetable and flower gardens, and crochet. She worked tirelessly for many years at their family owned bakery (Athens Bakery) and then in Manchester's factories (Syntex and Pandora). She was a devout Greek Orthodox Christian, and believed God would provide, protect, guide and watch over her Family; God never disappointed her even in the most challenging of times.
She was strong-willed but a peace-maker. Throughout her failing health her motivation was to live for her Husband and Children and to see that they would always be united. Her health deteriorated but her spirit never did.
Glykeria leaves behind her Husband Menelaos C. Tsoubanos of 70 years, three Sons Christos Tsoubanos of St. Louis Missouri, George Tsoubanos of Wanamassa, New Jersey, and Bill Tsoubanos of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, one Daughter Helen Rainey of Manchester, New Hampshire, Daughter-In-Laws Irene Tsoubanos and Maureen Tsoubanos, Son-In-Law Gary Rainey, and nine Grandchildren, Christian Tsoubanos, Aleke (Tsoubanos) Valentine, Stephanie (Tsoubanos) Saunders, Nicholas Tsoubanos, Alyssa Tsoubanos, Lea Tsoubanos, Michael Tsoubanos, Kristen Tsoubanos, and Sam Rainey, and several Nieces and Nephews.
Glykeria was a member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church Philoptochos Society and of the Kerasovon Society.
A note of thanks to care-givers Karen Macias, Nancy Rousseau, and Donna Bernard for the care provided during her period of declining health. It takes a village to raise a child, and a village to care for an elder.
Mom and Yiayia, you were a gentle, caring soul. You epitomized the name you were given Glykeria (Sweet Lady). You loved everyone unconditionally and accepted everyone into your home and into your heart. Our memories of you will be eternal. The rest you so deserved is now yours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church Philoptochos Society or the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church Youth Ministry.
Calling hours are 4pm â 7pm Sunday, 15 July 2012 at Phaneuf Funeral Home, Hanover Street, Manchester, NH with the Trisagion at 6pm officiated by Fr. Andrew Mahalares.
Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester.
