Graydon H. Wheeler

Graydon H. Wheeler, 84 of Brattleboro, VT passed away peacefully Dec. 22, 2011 while sitting with his dog on his back steps. He was born in Chester, VT February 15, 1927 the son of Irving and Ethel (Wheellock) Wheeler. In 1945 he enlisted in the Army Reserves and transferred into the active Army 7 months later where he attained the rank of Tec 5. While in the Army he served in Germany first as a truck driver and later as a Guard at the Nuremberg Trials. After his discharge in 1949 he returned home where he met and married Julia R. Wilkins in 1951. In his earlier years he worked for Bryant Chucking and Grinding Springfield, VT and late moved to Massachusetts to be a Farmer. After Farming for about 10 years, he then became a Truck Driver and after driving for many years he went to work for the State of Massachusetts in the Maintenance Dept. of the Belchertown State School, where he worked until he retired. After retiring from the State, he moved back to Vermont to live out his retirement years. He was an avid fisherman and other than that he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
Besides his wife Julia, he leaves behind a sister, Nylene and her husband John (Jack)Oliver of Ocala, FL, a son Robert C. and his wife Carole of West Chesterfield, New Hampshire, another son, Graydon L. and his wife Katherine of Huntley, Wyoming and his daughter, Lorena L. and her husband Darren Hubler of Hinsdale. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday January 5, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Ker-Westerlund Funeral Home, 57 High St. Brattleboro. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 1:00 to 2:00 at the funeral home.
Graveside committal services and interment will take place at a later date in the Glebe Cemetery, Londonderry.
