Hailey Ann LaPlante

Hailey Ann LaPlante, five day old infant daughter of Briarna Murphy-Abbott and Brian LaPlante died Tuesday April 15, 2003 at the Elliot Hospital Natal Intensive Care Unit from an unknown virus. Hailey was a beautiful baby girl with the spirit of an angel. Since birth, Hailey had overcome tremendous hardship on several occasions. She fought for life with tremendous strength like a great warrior, even until the moment of her death when she managed to sustain her life for a brief period without the assistance of medical help. Hailey died surrounded by her family and finished her brief journey here on earth while being held by her mother. In the time she was here, Hailey profoundly touched many lives and will be greatly missed. We thank all the heroic efforts of all the doctors and nurses who were involved. In additions to her parents, she leaves behind her maternal grandparents, Catherine (Labbe) Abbott and Jeffrey Abbott of Deering and Michael Murphy of Portsmouth; her paternal grandparents, Richard LaPlante and Madeline Laplante both of Manchester; great grandparents; several aunts, uncles and cousins. A calling hour will take place at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street on Monday morning from 10 to 11 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. The service will be conducted by the Rev. David A. Donati, Associate Pastor of the First Assembly of God Church. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in care of Dr. John F. Modlin, Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, 1 Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756. All donations received will be used towards pediatrics research programs for infectious diseases.
