Harald Reed Brown, age 68, passed peacefully at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington Massachusetts on September 11th, 2020. He died as he lived, surrounded by those who loved him deeply.
Born February 6th, 1952 in Aichach, Germany, Harald was adopted by Reed and Erna Brown of Waltham Massachusetts at the age of 4. When they returned to the United States three years later he officially became a U.S. Citizen. Raised with three siblings - Erna, Anita, and Mark - in a military family, discipline and loyalty was deeply ingrained in him. He continued this tradition with his own daughters, Samantha and Stephanie to whom he was deeply devoted. When his youngest daughter married he extended his paternal umbrella to include her husband Gerald. However, it wasn't until the birth of his granddaughters Charlotte and Savannah that he began to show his softer side, taking to his role as a doting grandfather with the same dedication to which he approached everything in life.
Harald's was a life of service, to his family, his community, and his country. He began his career with an Associate's Degree in Drafting. He changed course at the age of 27 when he enlisted in the US Air Force as a Medical Service Specialist. Upon earning his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing at 35, he received his commission and begun work as an Emergency Room Nurse. At 44, he retired with the rank of Captain and multiple awards and commendations such as the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal. He then took the skills he'd earned into civilian life with a position at Concord Hospital. At 65, he left the workforce entirely becoming a full-time grandfather for his remaining years.
